Victorian Wash Stand
This Victorian wash stand was a client’s own commission, a beloved heirloom which came to the studio in a very sorry state. Covered in decades of heavy black varnish and with an unappealing tiled backplate, it required a lot of imagination to bring it back to life! Using soft dove grey with copper accents, the years were sanded, scrubbed and painted away to reveal its inner beauty, making a feature of the rich original oak doors and drawer-fronts. With the old tiles removed, a custom-made “Great Wave”-inspired stencil was applied to the backplate to echo the pattern of the marble top, with fun new drawer linings as a finishing touch.
